Getting started with SWPL AI Visibility

What SWPL AI Visibility does
AI assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot) increasingly answer shopping questions by reading store websites. This plugin answers two questions for your store: are the AI systems and Google actually visiting and reading your site, and is anything on the site quietly blocking them – then gives you one-click fixes for the blockers.
Where the numbers come from: the plugin reads data from services you already use – Cloudflare (who is visiting), Google Search Console (how you rank), Google Merchant Center (product listings), and Google PageSpeed (site speed) – using keys you provide. It never sends your data anywhere; the connections only read. Core features work on any WordPress site; the WooCommerce-specific pieces (Merchant Center, attribute checks) activate automatically when WooCommerce is present.
The pages
- Dashboard – the live picture: AI crawler visits, the Bot Door (are the bots you want getting in, and is everyone else blocked), traffic and caching, Google search results, product-listing health, page speed, AI referrals, and a single score (out of 110) that summarizes it all, with a 30-day trend from automatic daily snapshots.
- Organic Traffic – your Google search performance in detail: clicks, impressions, CTR, average position, a daily chart, the searches people used, and the pages they landed on, over a 7, 28, or 90 day window.
- AI Traffic – the humans arriving from AI assistants: how many, from which assistant (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot, Gemini, Claude, You.com, DeepSeek, Phind), and which pages they land on. Counted first-party on your own pages; counts only, never who.
- Fix Modules – the toolbox: robots.txt, llms.txt, caching, schema, noindex, broken pages, redirects, image SEO, sitemap health, and more. None changes your site until you switch it on.
- Settings – connections and alerts. Help – the built-in manual; every “?” icon in the plugin links to its full entry there.
Installation
- Go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin, upload the plugin zip, and click Install Now, then Activate.
- When licensing arrives for your copy, enter your license key where prompted. Until then the plugin runs unlocked.
- Open AI Visibility > Settings to connect your accounts.
Initial setup – in this order
- Connect Cloudflare (Settings, Connections tab). This powers the most: AI crawler counts, traffic, cache rate, and most of the score. You need two values: the Zone ID (on your domain’s Overview page in the Cloudflare dashboard, right column, API section) and an API token you create at dash.cloudflare.com/profile/api-tokens with exactly two read permissions: Zone > Zone > Read and Zone > Analytics > Read. The token is stored encrypted and can read only – it cannot change your DNS or firewall. Press Test Connection after saving.
- Connect Google (same tab). A one-time setup in Google Cloud Console: create a project, enable the Search Console API (and the Content API for Shopping if you use Merchant Center), configure the consent screen, and – do not skip this – press Publish App. In Testing mode Google kills every connection after 7 days; publishing fixes that, and no verification review is needed for your own store. Then create an OAuth client (Web application) with the redirect address the plugin shows you, paste the Client ID and Client Secret, and click Connect Google Account. Enter your Search Console property exactly as Google writes it (https://example.com/ or sc-domain:example.com). The plugin verifies the connection with a live test – “Connected (verified)” means tested-and-working, not just saved.
- Add the PageSpeed key – a free Google API key: enable the PageSpeed Insights API in your Google Cloud project, create an API key under Credentials, paste it, and press Run Test Now.
- Walk the Fix Modules page top to bottom. Each module card shows its current findings; enable the ones that report problems. Nothing is destructive, and every module can be switched off again.
- Switch on Alerts (Alerts tab) so a drop in score, cache rate, or AI traffic – or a good bot being blocked by a firewall rule – emails you instead of waiting to be noticed. Press Send Test Alert once to confirm store email actually delivers.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work without WooCommerce?
Yes. AI crawl analytics, Search Console, the fix modules, and the score work on any WordPress site. Merchant Center and the attribute checks light up when WooCommerce is active.
My Google connection breaks every week
Your Google Cloud app is still in Testing mode – Google deliberately expires test connections after 7 days. Press Publish App on the OAuth consent screen page and reconnect once.
My AI crawler numbers are zero across the board
Usually something is blocking the bots. Check the Robots.txt Manager module first – it lists each AI crawler as allowed or blocked – then the noindex Fixer, and the Dashboard’s Bot Door card, which shows whether a Cloudflare security rule is turning away a bot you want.
Are my API tokens safe?
Tokens and secrets are stored encrypted in your WordPress database and are never redisplayed in the admin. The Cloudflare token you create is read-only by design.
