Getting started with SWPL Collections

What SWPL Collections does
Collections are your store’s front doors: real, permanent pages built on top of your product filters, made for shoppers and search engines to land on. A collection like “Engagement Rings” gets its own clean address (yourstore.com/engagement-rings/), your own title and introduction, and a live product grid already narrowed to the right products – shoppers can keep narrowing from there without leaving the page.
Requirement: SWPL Collections is built on the SWPL Product Filters plugin. Install and activate Product Filters first; a collection without it shows your text but no products.
Installation
- Go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin, upload the plugin zip, and click Install Now.
- Click Activate. Confirm SWPL Product Filters is active as well.
- When licensing arrives for your copy, enter your license key where prompted. Until then the plugin runs unlocked.
Creating your first collection
- Go to Collections > New collection.
- Type the title – it becomes the page heading AND the address (a title of “Engagement Rings” publishes at /engagement-rings/).
- Write your introduction in the editor below the title. This is the text shoppers and Google read at the top of the page – a short, warm paragraph works best.
- In the “What this collection shows” box, pick a category, tick the filter choices you want (the options offered come from your real catalog, each with its live product count), and set a price band if you want one.
- Press Publish. The page is live on your store – and if you run a headless storefront connected through SWPL Product Filters, it appears there within seconds too.
Every setting explained
- Category – which part of the store the collection draws from. Default: whole store. Changing it reloads the filter choices below to match; picks that do not apply to the new category are cleared.
- Filter choices – the narrowing the page starts with. Shoppers see these as removable chips, exactly as if they had picked them. Default: none ticked.
- Price band (From / Up to) – an optional price window for “Under $500” style pages. Leave either box empty for no limit on that side.
What success looks like
Open the published page at its address: it wears your site’s own category-page design automatically – the same header, layout, sidebar, and product grid your category pages have, because the collection is rendered through the very same template. Your title replaces the heading, your introduction sits above the products, and the filter sidebar is live so shoppers can narrow further. If you ever change themes or page builders, collections follow the new design on their own – there is nothing to restyle.
The collection also appears in your sitemap automatically, which is how search engines find it. Over weeks, the page starts showing up in Google for searches that match its topic – that is the whole point, and it is gradual, not instant.
From day one the plugin also quietly records demand evidence: which filter combinations shoppers use and what they type into your site’s search box – anonymous tallies only, counts and never who. That evidence feeds the proposals desk (covered in the companion article), and the longer the plugin runs, the smarter its suggestions get.
Frequently asked questions
I pressed Publish but it saved as a draft with a red message
The collection’s address would collide with an existing page – two pages cannot share one address. The message names the conflicting page; change this collection’s title or slug (or the other page’s) and publish again.
The page shows my text but no products
Either SWPL Product Filters is not active, or the choices you ticked match no products in stock. Check Plugins first, then re-open the collection and loosen the filter choices – each option shows its live product count in the picker.
My SEO plugin gives the collection a bad score
SEO checklists grade the text in the editor box as if it were a blog post – they cannot see the real published page, which carries your full product grid, a proper title, a description built from your introduction, and its own address. A short introduction scoring “content too thin” is normal and fine. If you want to hand-tune what Google shows, fill in the SEO plugin’s snippet fields on the collection – those take priority over the automatic ones; left empty, the plugin writes them for you from the title and introduction.
I edited the collection but the storefront still shows the old page
On a headless storefront, pages refresh within seconds via the send-on-save connection – if that connection is not set up, the storefront refreshes on its own schedule (up to an hour). Nothing is broken; to make edits instant, connect the storefront under SWPL Product Filters > Settings > Headless storefront.
